How to convert PNG to PDF

To convert PNG to PDF, add the files, arrange them, choose the page settings and create the PDF. The steps use the labels shown on this page.

1. Select Choose images, or drag PNG files onto the Drag and drop images here area. Add more files later with Add more images.
2. Wait until each file shows its size in pixels. A file that cannot be read shows an error instead.
3. Use Up and Down to set the page order. Rotate turns an image 90° clockwise, and Remove takes it out.
4. Under PDF settings, choose Page size, Page orientation, Image layout and Margin (mm).
5. Select Create PDF, check the preview with Previous and Next, then select Download PDF to save images.pdf.

A change to the list or the settings clears the finished PDF, so select Create PDF again. Reset empties the list and restores the default settings.

What happens to the PNG pixels

An opaque 8-bit sRGB PNG goes into the PDF with its pixel values unchanged. In a check with a 257 × 131 PNG of random pixels, the image stored in the PDF matched the file value for value, both as added and after one Rotate. The PDF keeps it with Flate compression, the same lossless method PNG files use, so no JPEG artifacts appear around text or sharp edges.

Image quality does not change PNG files. Smaller file and Lossless both store them this way; only images that arrived as JPEG can be saved as JPEG.

The PDF image has no transparency. Fully transparent pixels become white, and partly transparent pixels are blended with white: red at half opacity came out as 255, 127, 127. A 16-bit PNG is reduced to 8 bits per channel. A PNG tagged with a color profile other than sRGB, such as Display P3, is converted to sRGB.

Page size and orientation

The default page is A4 with 10 mm margins, Auto orientation and the Contain layout. Auto gives a landscape page to an image that is wider than it is tall, and a portrait page to a tall or square image. Contain scales the image to fit inside the margins without cropping and centers it.

For example, a 1920 × 1080 screenshot on the default settings gets a landscape A4 page. It fills the 277 mm between the side margins and is 155.8 mm tall, which is about 176 pixels per inch. Cover fills the whole area inside the margins instead and crops the edges that do not fit.

Fit image makes each page the size of its image at 96 pixels per inch. With Margin (mm) set to 0, an 800 × 600 PNG gives an 8.33 × 6.25 inch page. A margin is added around the image, and Page orientation and Image layout do not apply.

Combine several PNG files into one PDF

One PDF holds every image in the list, one image per page, in list order. Select several files at once in the file picker, or add them in more than one batch. The list numbers the images in order, and the Up and Down buttons move them.

PNG files can share a PDF with other image types. The same picker takes JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF and SVG files, and each gets its own page. With Smaller file, a JPEG photo is saved as JPEG at quality 92 while the PNG files keep lossless storage.

If one file cannot be read, the others still make a PDF. The result then reports a partial result and names each skipped file. It also shows the page count and file size. Cancel stops a run and keeps the images that were already prepared.

Limits

The tool sets no limit on the number of images or their size. The browser's memory is the practical limit, so a very large batch can stop with a memory error. If that happens, add fewer images at a time.

Each image gets its own page. The tool cannot place two PNG files on one page, add text or set a password on the PDF. Text inside a screenshot stays part of the picture, because the tool does not run text recognition, so that text cannot be searched or selected in the PDF.

The PDF carries no title, author or creation date, and the tool does not copy source metadata such as EXIF data or PNG text notes. Pixels are not downscaled: the PDF keeps each PNG at its full pixel size. The tool needs JavaScript, and a browser that lacks a feature it needs shows an error when you add images.
