Metadata editing is not content redaction. Saving invalidates digital signatures. The file is rewritten in full and labelled PDF 1.7, so earlier saved revisions and objects nothing refers to are dropped. These stay as they are: other Info entries, the document ID, metadata attached to pages, images or fonts, application data (PieceInfo), thumbnails, attachments, annotations and visible contents. This is not a sanitization tool.
How it works
- Choose your PDF. Inspect document properties and the original XMP packet.
- Edit or clear fields. Review the proposed changes and choose whether to remove document XMP.
- Save and download. The exported PDF is reopened to verify supported fields and page count. Review your document in a PDF reader.
Frequently asked questions
Does this change my pages?
The tool saves the loaded PDF without copying, rasterizing or reordering pages. Text, images, links, forms and bookmarks are kept when possible. Complex features can behave differently after saving; check the downloaded file. Existing digital signatures are invalidated.
Does clearing fields remove all personal information?
No. This edits six standard Info text fields and optionally clears the two Info dates and removes the document-level XMP packet. The saved file is a full rewrite, so the old values, earlier saved revisions and unreferenced objects are not carried over. It preserves other Info entries (listed under “Other Info entries”), the document ID and metadata attached elsewhere. Names may still appear in page contents, annotations, attachments, signatures or metadata on pages and images. Use a dedicated redaction and sanitization workflow if you need that outcome.
What files can I use?
Use a readable, unencrypted PDF. Encrypted files need to be unlocked first. There is no preset file-size or page-count limit, but complex documents can exceed your browser’s available memory. Cancel stops processing. Reset fields puts back the values read from your file; leaving the page releases the file and download.
Are my files uploaded or stored?
No. Processing runs in your browser; this tool does not upload files or save their metadata to browser storage. Each save starts from the original selection. Downloading saves only the output you request.
