Frequently asked questions
Which files are included?
Browser icons include 16×16, 32×32 and 48×48 PNGs, plus favicon.ico containing those three PNG frames in a real ICO container. Website + app icons also includes a 180×180 apple-touch-icon.png, 192×192 and 512×512 PNGs, and site.webmanifest. Both presets include favicon-links.html and README.txt. These are useful conventions, not an exhaustive list of requirements for every platform.
What changes when I choose fit, crop or background?
Fit keeps the complete image centered, with padding on the shorter side. Crop fills the square by removing edges from the longer side. Transparent preserves alpha and leaves padding clear; Solid color fills padding and transparent pixels. All outputs use the same choice. Larger preview tiles are scaled for this page; the individual downloads have the stated pixel dimensions. Enlarging a small source cannot restore detail.
Which source images can I use?
Try PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO, TIFF, SVG or AVIF. Actual content is decoded regardless of extension or reported type; support depends on browser codecs and the bundled fallback decoders. Animated and multi-image sources become one still frame, shown in the source preview; TIFF uses its first image. Orientation is applied, source metadata is not copied, and sRGB output may change HDR, high-bit-depth or wide-gamut detail. SVG is rasterized without running scripts or fetching external images and fonts; unsupported features may differ.
Does the app preset make my website installable?
No. It supplies icons and a manifest template. Replace the placeholder site name and short name, and configure start_url and scope for your site. Icon paths and HTML links assume the site root. The app icons use purpose “any”; they are not maskable icons. Apple touch icons may be composited by the platform; use a solid background when appropriate. Check your site's own installation requirements separately.
Why has my browser kept the old favicon?
Browsers may cache icons separately from the page. Check the HTML paths and files, then refresh or clear the site's icon cache. This ICO uses embedded PNG frames rather than legacy BMP frames. Test the downloaded files in your target browser.
Are files uploaded, and can I stop?
Processing runs in your browser. Your image and filename are not uploaded, logged or persisted by this tool. Cancel & reset terminates processing and releases the previews and downloads. There is no tool-imposed input size cap; real browser memory, canvas and codec limits can still cause an error. Try another image if decoding fails. .
